Stuck In Traffic Drives to Wire in 28th Running of the New Providence Stakes

On a windy, overcast Saturday afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack, Nick Gonzalez would watch his four-year-old pupil, Stuck In Traffic, go on to capture his first win of the '09 season in the 28th edition of the New Providence Stakes. Stuck In Traffic, with Eurico Rosa Da Silva up, adds his fifth stakes win to an already impressive resume, after taking the wire in the $125,000 event, in a time of 1:09.57.

After a lackluster beginning to the 2009 campaign Stuck In Traffic, owned by M.A.D. Racing Stables and Martha Gonzalez, would get back on track in the New Providence. The four-year-old son of Kiridashi would get a clean break from the gate this time while expected front-runner Drunken Love would go for the early lead. Stuck In Traffic would stalk the leaders, going three-wide around the turn, eventually making his bid at the one-eighth pole where he would draw away from weakening horses Drunken Love and Bold Nurse. Though Stuck In Traffic would go on to win by a margin of two and one-quarter lengths, he had to hold off trainer Mark Fournier's pair of closing runners in Legal Move and Yummy With Butter who would finish in second and third places respectively. After his last performance, Stuck In Traffic did not get much support in the morning line or on the tote board as he would begin the day at 8-1 and go off at post time with a nice price of 9/2. It was a very good race for this horse to get back to form and show the fans what he can really do. Watch for him to come back in a similar race condition, but don't expect to get the same price.
